Jesus has warned His disciples about fearing human repercussion saying it is only God that should be feared because if we are against God then we have very real concerns about eternity. Denying God is a mistake for the very creatures who are children of God. God desires our best and has a plan for us to see and know what is best for each of us. Jesus takes this further by declaring if we are a disciples then we should be ready to acknowledge who He is to whomever asks or whomever should know Jesus. By acknowledging Jesus to others Jesus says He will acknowledge us before the angels of God. The angels of God are messengers; Jesus is declaring that word will go out through the heavens that Jesus Christ is a friend. I imagine having Jesus Christ as a friend declared in heaven makes our name known and the joy in heaven something we can count on in our future. Jesus is saying if you tell people I am your friend I will tell heavenly bodies you are my friend. It is like getting retweeted by the most popular account on Twitter. It also means Jesus stands with us in judgement, and before God. Jesus will stand with us, eternally, simply for our acknowledging Him before others.
Jesus will also say that if we deny Him, He will deny us. Fearing God and Jesus is only something we can bring on ourselves, through denial. We have a friend in Jesus, we should always be ready to tell people about our friend.
