Ephesians 1:9-10 – November 6, 2020

he has made known to us the mystery of his will in accord with his favor that he set forth in him as a plan for the fullness of times, to sum up all things in Christ, in heaven and on earth. Ephesians 1:9-10 NABRE

Paul opens his letter to the community at Ephesus with a blessing and prayer praising God and His plan. In the ending verses of the prayer Paul turns to describe Christ’s role. The verses describe blessings Christians already enjoy and conclude by directing our attention to God’s plan for an ultimate future. We receive redemption from Christ, meaning liberation, freedom from the slavery of addiction and sin. Our liberation is forgiveness or release from the guilt of our transgressions, direct disobedience from God or a selfishness that leaves us walking away from God. We read God has revealed His mystery to us, God’s plan for redemption through Christ. All things will be summed up through Christ, all things in heaven and earth. All called to Christ, God’s chosen instrument to redeem, free and call all things toward Himself. God’s plan is not only for the current time but the fullness of time, all things are summed up in Christ. All things means all creation, all united, gathered together, unified in Christ. We are all under the head of the body, Christ. This has always been Jesus’ message that we all become one as Jesus and His Father are one. We are all unified in Christ to God.

This message of unity is powerful; to love as one, to live as one, to care as one, to be compassionate as one. The kingdom of God is where we are all one, all in heaven and earth, all creation. Christ’s mission is to bring all under His love and care. We grow in Christ and love all through Christ. How wonderful would it be to have this unity now!

Can you imagine being free to choose everything under Christ? Do you seek unity with Christ?
