All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him. Matthew 11:27 NABRE
Jesus is speaking to those who are listening and He has some challenging thoughts. He says, “All things have been handed over to me by my Father.” It is not completely clear what He means but if we look at what He has done; thus far we can see He has teaching authority that is very impressive, He has healing ability that is unmatched and He has a spiritual authority that allows Him to forgive sins. He is a teacher, a healer and a forgiver; we might have assumed this authority came from God but here He tells us the Father has given him all things. There is probably more but we recognize in Jesus that He knows the source of His gifts and who is responsible for giving them to Him. All things we have come from the Father too! Then Jesus tells us that He knows the Father and the Father knows Him. His entire identity is identified in His Sonship, being the Son of the Father is paramount to His identity. Then Jesus goes on to indicate we only know the Father because Jesus has revealed the Father to us. We know our child relationship to God through the things Jesus has revealed to us through those who shared His gospel message. We are sons and daughters of God, not as Jesus, but loved as deeply. We understand this as we are often given all we have from our parents, just as God has given Jesus all things. God has given us all things too!
If we trust all comes from God, we can do great things because God wants our success. Like Jesus we should realize God is our Father and we are able to teach, heal and forgive if we accept these things from God.
