Isaiah 12:4 – July 5, 2020

And you will say on that day: give thanks to the LORD, acclaim his name; Among the nations make known his deeds, proclaim how exalted is his name. Isaiah 12:4  NABRE

Isaiah is the prophet most quoted by Jesus when He is preaching, in fact Jesus quotes Isaiah in the synagogue when he was announcing the beginning of His ministry. Jesus speaks, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,” (Luke 4:18 from Isaiah 61:1-2) Isaiah is the prophet most noted as foretelling of the Messiah and the type of Messiah the world can expect. Once Jesus has come and quotes the prophet Isaiah we easily map the communication from Isaiah to prophecy of Jesus coming. The quoted verse can align with Messianic prediction. The verse immediately preceding, verse three, reads, “With joy you will draw water from the fountains of salvation.” Water is Jesus symbol for salvation, it is in baptism, it is living water that comes from Jesus and refreshes our soul. This water is the life-giving word of God, it springs from the apostles, Jesus disciples, preachers, the church, we are able to recognize in this verse that Christ is the source of salvation.  Isaiah speaks into the coming Messianic era, he foretells salvation and then points us to God, saying we should give thanks to God, declare all God has done to all the nations, and exalt God’s name and we could add from bended knee.

God is the one who put the Messianic plan in place, He chose Jesus, His Son, as the source of living water, our salvation. It is to God we owe great thanks and humility. Thank God unceasingly, with every breath, we breathe.

Do you thank God? Are you saved through Jesus?
