Psalms 33:12 – July 4, 2020

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people chosen as his inheritance. Psalms 33:12 NABRE

This is a psalm of praise, it begins with an invitation to praise the Lord, it outlines why we should praise the Lord and it ends by people declaring trust in the Lord. The reason given for this praise and trust is God’s steadfast love and His great power manifested in creation. We read God has chosen Israel and eventually His providential care is for all. This psalm may seem to indicate God chooses only the nation of Israel, but as followers of Christ we know God is for all people. The story of Israel is a story of God choosing one nation to set an example and ready all people for the coming of the Messiah. When the Messiah comes He tells us that the message of God is for all nations, the message should be preached to all the ends of the earth.  Therefore this is not only a blessing for Israel but in fact the blessing is for all who come to God, including those who have come to God through Jesus. As people chosen by God, and who choose God we are God’s inheritance. An inheritor is someone close to the one giving the inheritance, a child or close relative usually. God is telling us we are His children, we will inherit what is God’s. We cannot fully appreciate what it means to be chosen as God’s inheritance but we should think of it as a significant statement from God to us His children.

As children we are blessed and set to inherit what is God’s. It is amazing that God the creator of all the universe would take notice of us, and not only take notice but place a priority on us. In fact God calls us His children. We should praise God and be thankful for all God does for us.

Do you recognize your inheritance in God?  Do you live as a child of God?

As children we are blessed and set to inherit what is God's. It is amazing that God the creator of all the universe would take notice of us, and not only take notice but place a priority on us. Click To Tweet
