God speaking through the prophet Ezekiel brings about a transformation in the people. He desires to change them interiorly, saying He will remove their hearts of stone and replace them with hearts of flesh. God will do this by putting His Spirit within them, creating a change of heart in which the people will no longer desire sinful, selfish behavior but rather do the things God ordains keeping God’s ways. The people of Israel have this constant struggle with doing the will of God and the pull toward pleasure and self satisfaction, much as we do today. But we see God never abandons His creation no matter how much or often He is disappointed by them.
As we may learn God will always give second chances. God never breaks a relationship to the point of ending the possibility for reconciliation. God will always hope for our transformation to become a person with His Spirit within us, so we may live an ordained life with God within us.
