Jesus feeds thousands and afterwards travels across the sea. The people seeing Jesus gone follow Him, walking around the sea to where He lands. Jesus challenges them, they only follow because they had their fill of food. Hunger is common in the era of Jesus, so if Jesus can feed so many, of course they desire to follow Him. Jesus wants to offer them much more than a belly full of food that will be empty and need filling again. Jesus has food that satiates more than hunger pains, it satisfies the desires of the heart, addressing the yearning they (and we) feel deep from within. This of course is perfect love; the love God provides without cost or need to perform any worthiness tasks. God fills us with love which is the deepest desire we have all our life. We might fall in love, and get those butterflies in our stomach, but no matter how that goes those butterflies settle down and we get comfortable and complacent with the one we love. God brings that special excitement to us all, the knowing that we are so deeply loved we cannot ever change God’s love for us, if there is a change, it is us who change.
Jesus loves God so intently and deeply He will do anything to please God. This comes from the seal God has set on Jesus, the anointing He receives in the Jordan River at His baptism. God will set His seal on us, and we too will feel a complete satisfaction as we see in Jesus. The seal of God endures eternally, it brings satisfaction now and will always quell our yearning for love. Seek Jesus’ eternal food, be sealed in the love of God.
