Mark 16:5 – April 17, 2022

On entering the tomb they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe, and they were utterly amazed. Mark 16:5 NABRE
.
Mark tells the story of disciples going to Jesus’ tomb after the Sabbath ends, arriving they find the tomb is open, with a young man sitting clothed in a white robe. They are amazed. The young man is an angel, a messenger of God who is aware the disciples will come looking for Jesus. The angel tells them not to be alarmed and that He is risen, just as He told them. They are sent back to the rest of the disciples with the message that Jesus will meet them in Galilee. This phrase He is risen is common among Christians, many through the centuries have greeted each other with this phrase, particularly immediately after Jesus resurrection and during the celebration of Easter. He is risen, is responded to with He is risen indeed.

Jesus’ life has angelic bookends. At the birth of Jesus in the little town of Bethlehem angels announce and sing glory, shepherds and others hear and come to see the new born baby. We read at Jesus resurrection an angel greets His disciples and proclaims Jesus is risen as He told them He would. God has sent angels to make the proclamation of Jesus life and resurrection. It is a sign of God’s presence in the life of Jesus and the story of His resurrection. Jesus seems to know so much during His life, He probably has angels around Him constantly. He is tuned into these messengers and it serves Him well. It is only when Jesus needs a message delivered to others that angels proclaim for Him, the majority of the time they are just present and protecting. Angels are present in our lives, protecting us and proclaiming to God our beauty. Know you are protected, angelically.

Are you aware of angels in your life? Do you feel supernaturally protected at certain times?
