John 13:21 – April 12, 2022

When he had said this, Jesus was deeply troubled and testified, “Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” John 13:21 NABRE

Jesus is gathered with His disciples and is troubled because He is aware what is about to happen. Jesus announces to His disciples that someone will betray Him and the betrayer is among them at the meal. We know it is Judas who will betray Jesus and he will be identified as the betrayer later in the meal. But before he is identified those who hear are concerned, wondering who among them would betray Jesus and they wonder if it is something they will be doing. Jesus has to be quite disappointed knowing someone close to Him is going to turn Him over to the religious authorities but He also knows Judas plays a key role in the events that are to occur.

We don’t know how Jesus is aware of future events, or how He knows He will suffer at the hands of those who want Him out of the way, but there is certainly evidence He does know things. Perhaps in prayer Jesus is getting messages from God, He is so close to God, He prays so often and has a consciousness that is in the Kingdom of God, what God knows Jesus may know as well. We should learn from Jesus and pray often, attaining a closer relationship with God and entering a consciousness that provides us entry to the Kingdom of God. With God in our ear we can certainly make many wise decisions and live a life of joy, that is until we are asked to pick up our cross and suffer as Jesus.
