John 4:42 – March 20, 2022

and they said to the woman, “We no longer believe because of your word; for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the savior of the world.” John 4:42 NABRE

Jesus travels through Samaria, and meets a woman who introduces Him to the town’s people. Jesus speaking to the woman energizes her into recognizing He is the Messiah, particularly telling her much about herself that He could only know if He had a special prophetic vision. Excited to meet Jesus she spreads the word to all in the town, who in turn meet Jesus themselves. After meeting Jesus they are energized as well and recognize Jesus as the savior of the world. This is a common means for the word of Jesus to spread. Followers today are not responsible for converting people, we can only invite people to listen about Jesus and allow Jesus to move into their hearts. Jesus says no one comes to the Father except through me, (see John 14:6.) Jesus’ message is rich, filled with love so all who hear recognize its beauty. Jesus works in the hearts of people to let them know through Him they can meet our heavenly Father who will open up the Kingdom of God for them, if they desire. This story of the town’s people hearing Jesus and having a change of heart is an example of what could happen to all people who encounter Jesus. Through sharing love, peace and rest Jesus brings a new life and new Spirit into people and they have a chance to turn toward God completely.

Today churches and people take the role of making disciples of people who don’t know Jesus. It is wonderful to see people excited like the woman of Samaria, ready to tell all about Jesus. This is the role of a follower of Jesus, introduce Jesus to others and then let Jesus lead them to God.

Do you share Jesus with others? Are you excited talking about Jesus?
