Matthew 9:28 – December 3, 2021

When he entered the house, the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I can do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they said to him. Matthew 9:28 NABRE

Jesus is journeying and called to help with many miracles and healings. As He is passing, two blind men call to Him. He stops and approaches the blind men and asks if they believe He can do something for them. It seems a test of their faith and they both respond they do believe He can do it for them. With their faith affirmed Jesus touches their eyes and says let it be done according to their faith. It is striking that Jesus asks them if they think He can do it but ultimately it is their faith that has opened their eyes. People see Jesus performing miracles and think He is the one who is driving out demons and healing people, those people who are observing, think it is Him. But the call to faith demonstrates it is God’s will that is being exercised, demons are rebuked and eyes are opened because of people’s faith and belief in God. Jesus is the one pointing to God and declaring it is faith in God that changes lives, in this case by giving two men their sight.

Our faith can change our lives, Jesus’ words point to this message. We can be healed and we can have our sight opened. There is more in the world than the physical evidence we see with our eyes, and touch with our hands. The depth of spiritual richness available is shown over and over again in the stories of Jesus and the healings of the people who He calls out in faith. We must trust in God, knowing that He wants good to prevail in a world where the spiritual is moving with great evidence. Believe and we too can walk in the kingdom, where many are healed and love is the most common value.

Do you want to tap into the kingdom of God? What gets in the way of your faith changing your life?
