Luke 8:8 – September 18, 2021

“And some seed fell on good soil, and when it grew, it produced fruit a hundredfold.” After saying this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear.” Luke 8:8 NABRE

Jesus shares a parable about the word of God and how it can fall on those who hear but are influenced not to believe, it can fall on those who hear it but don’t allow it to enter them deeply, it can fall on those who hear it but are anxious and more concerned with the pleasure of life and it doesn’t take hold in them, and it can fall on those who hear it with a good and generous heart and the word bears much fruit. Jesus is aware there is competition for the word of God and that no matter how much God works in a life or how much effort is put into making the word take root, there will always be those who for one reason or another God’s word does not take root. But when the word does take root, then the good it produces is tremendous. Jesus uses a sower and seed to create an image of the word of God, He knows one seed can produce much, an orange seed produces an orange tree that will produce hundreds and hundreds of oranges every season. It is the way of the word of God, a small seed can bear so much good in the world. Often we think our little effort won’t amount to much, but with God a small seed is what is needed most.

Jesus stresses that those who can, should hear this and take it to heart. Nothing can be more important in our life than planting a small seed that will produce the good God desires in the world. Anyone can do it, we don’t need to be a scholar or a teacher, we just need to do small things lovingly. In fact loving others can be the seed God needs us to plant. Find someone who needs love and love them.

Can you do something small for God? Can you be the orange seed?

Nothing can be more important in our life than planting a small seed that will produce the good God desires in the world. Anyone can do it, we don't need to be a scholar or a teacher, we just need to do small things lovingly. Click To Tweet
