John 14:10 – May 3, 2021

Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. John 14:10 NABRE

Jesus is speaking to His disciples about His Father, telling them they know the Father and have seen the Father’s works. His disciples struggle with what Jesus is telling them and honestly I think those of us who read the scriptures around these passages today still struggle with what Jesus is teaching. Jesus’ disciples ask him to show them the Father and Jesus is miffed as to why they would ask, especially those who have been with Him from the beginning of His public ministry. Jesus is completely living to do the will of His Father, in fact He says that the Father is in Him and He is in the Father, they are a communion of Being, doing, seeing, acting, working as One. Jesus tells them the words He speaks are not His, the words He speaks are the Father’s words. Somehow, Jesus is inspired to speak words of His divine Father. Jesus is inspired to do His Father’s works.

Jesus is not only in communion with the Father, we are called to be in communion. The Spirit of God dwells in us, learning from Jesus who speaks the Father’s words and does the Father’s works, we are to do the same. Jesus is completely the Father His entire life, for us to do and speak the works and words of the Father we can do what Jesus has done. Say what Jesus has said and we are saying the words of the Father. Jesus came to show us the way, His entire life is about that way. If we model Jesus, speak like Jesus, do like Jesus, we show people the Father. People see us then they see the Father, see Jesus and know the way to the kingdom of God. To speak and do the Father’s works, we must know Jesus.

Whose words do you speak? Whose works do you do?

If we model Jesus, speak like Jesus, do like Jesus, we show people the Father. People see us then they see the Father, see Jesus and know the way to the kingdom of God. To speak and do the Father's works, we must know Jesus. Click To Tweet
