John 14:4 – April 30, 2021

Where [I] am going you know the way. John 14:4 NABRE

Jesus is nearing the end of His time with His inner circle, His closest disciples and He has been teaching them much about what is to come, where He has come from and where He is going. Those listening still do not give the impression they fully understand what He means, or what it is He is saying to them. Everything they hear from Him is new, they have waited for a Messiah and believe Jesus is the Messiah, but He is not acting according to their expectations. Jesus says the last shall be first, and the disciples wonder when he will rid Israel of the oppressive occupiers. Now Jesus is telling them He is leaving and is making a place for them to join Him. This is difficult for them to understand, in their hearts they know Jesus has not done all that the Messiah has come to accomplish. Jesus goes on saying once He prepares a place for them He will come back for them. To them it sounds like a journey and they wonder why they cannot join Him. Then He says, where He is going they know the way. This has to boggle their minds, they can’t even imagine where He is going. For the longest time they just went with Him, how come they can’t go with Him now.

Of course Jesus is talking about returning to His Father, going to the heavenly abode. The disciples do know the way and eventually figure it out because the way is to live as Jesus lived, to love others, and be self-sacrificing. They let people know the message of Jesus is a message for everyone, those living out the Jesus message also know the way. Jesus later says He is the way, we must be like Jesus to find our way to Him. But it is not a future event, once we live like Jesus we are living in the kingdom of God.

Do you know the way? Can you live as Jesus lives?

Those living out the Jesus message know the way. Jesus says He is the way, we must be like Jesus to find our way to Him. But it is not a future event, once we live like Jesus we are living in the kingdom of God. Click To Tweet
