John 13:20 – April 29, 2021

“Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.” John 13:20 NABRE

Jesus washes the feet of His disciples, a lesson to them about servanthood. Reflecting on this act, He has done this now so when future events unfold they will know His being a servant is chosen, and they are called to serve like Him. In His divine nature He projects a life that is about serving others, not serving self. This is a critical message Jesus has come to announce, so those who follow and even those who may never follow Jesus, know of their importance to God. In fact the message is so important that Jesus tells His disciples that those who receive them receive Jesus and not only Jesus but God as well. This is the meaning of being sent, of being an apostle, we go on behalf of Jesus, basically ambassadors. Though we are much more than representatives, according to Jesus we have Jesus within us, and not only Jesus but God. Our meeting others must occur with this triune visibility, see me, see Jesus, see God.

Being received means we are heard and allowed to understand. The message we bring is the totality of gospels, focusing on love and compassion. We are commissioned to tell and more importantly show others, how important they are and how much they are needed in the kingdom of God. Go to others, listen to them, accept them as they are, demonstrate they are understood and show them Jesus and God within you, help them find the kingdom of God.

Do you know you meet people in the person of Jesus? Do you represent God when others see you?

Go to others, listen to them, accept them as they are, demonstrate they are understood and show them Jesus and God within you, help them find the kingdom of God. Click To Tweet
