John 6:38 – April 21, 2021

because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. John 6:38 NABRE

Speaking to a great crowd whom He had fed, Jesus tells them that He has come down from heaven. Earlier speaking to Nicodemus Jesus said no one has gone up to heaven except the one who came down from heaven (John 3:13.) Heaven is the abode of God, and coming from heaven indicates that Jesus knew God and even goes so far as to say He was sent by God. Being sent by God Jesus does not come to do what He wants to do, but He comes to do the things God wants Him to do. Jesus will often say He has come to do the will of the Father, but less often explains what the will of the Father is. Here Jesus tells us the will of the Father is to not lose anything that He was given and to raise everyone who sees and believes in Him so they may have eternal life. For God everyone and everything is important, after all everyone and everything is God’s creation. Why would God create something if it was not important to Him? Thus Jesus has this mission to not lose anyone or anything from God and live in such a way that when people see Him they believe and desire to come to the Father.

Jesus speaks often about not losing the one; not one coin, not one son, not one sheep. There is no way to understand the suffering God endures when one of His creation is lost. This message is so important that God sent someone from heaven to make sure we understand this importance. Jesus is sent from heaven, Jesus being God’s Son further demonstrate how important everyone and everything is to God. We help by living out the message everyone is important. We should also live a life filled with joy and thanking God, allowing others to see and desire the same.

How do you live for God? Is everyone important to you?
