Mark 1:38 – February 7, 2021

He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come.” Mark 1:38 NABRE

Jesus rises early, before dawn and He goes off and privately prays. Looking at everything that Jesus’ does as an example, we see that it is more important for Him to pray than sleep. His example is to start the day speaking privately with God. The formula of rising early and praying is the way Jesus lived each day to the fullest; healing, teaching, preaching and always attracting crowds. The disciples must search to find Jesus, not knowing Him very long, they are unfamiliar with His routine. This provides more information about Jesus, He is not a teacher who demands His disciples do as He does. Rather He is a teacher who sets an example and allows followers to discover their own path, knowing what has worked for Him. When the disciples find Jesus He tells them we must go to nearby villages to do what He has come to do. Primarily, Jesus is a preacher, telling all who will listen about the kingdom of God. Jesus uses interesting language, He says, “I have come,” not I was born, Jesus came from His preexisting place with His Father. We also read Jesus saying, let us go, including His disciples in the mission He began singularly but He knows can never be accomplished without the help of all of us.

We too must look at Jesus life; we should wake before dawn and pray, setting our day on the right track. We should also feel included in the mission of Jesus to preach. Jesus didn’t preach about law and rules, He taught with the “authority” of one who knows God, sharing what He knows and declaring us, children of God.

What is the first thing you do each day? Are you aware Jesus needs you to go with Him?

We should also feel included in the mission of Jesus to preach. Jesus didn't preach about law and rules, He taught with the 'authority' of one who knows God, sharing what He knows and declaring us, children of God. Click To Tweet
