Matthew 4:23 – August 16, 2020

He went around all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness among the people. Matthew 4:23 NABRE

Early in the gospel written by Matthew we read about Jesus’ first followers and the growing number of disciples that join Jesus’ ministry. Jesus calls certain young men who follow immediately, leaving behind all they know. At a certain point Jesus the Messiah engages in ministry in earnest. His outreach involves teaching and proclaiming the gospel as well as curing physical and spiritual ailments. News of Jesus’ ministry travels quickly beyond Galilee. Pilgrims begin to come to Jesus from all around, some from Syria, north of Palestine, people travel from Jerusalem and Judea. Jesus has a message and He also has a heart for the people. From the beginning days Jesus shows His love, He wants all people to know about the kingdom and He wants all people to be healed, no matter what it takes. Many times we see Jesus has people following so they, a family member or friend is healed. Jesus understands it is important to remove all distraction and ailments that concern people in order to let them see the true love of God. It is a question people still ask; if God loves me so much then why do I suffer? Jesus wants people to look outside themselves, to care for one another, sometimes in order to get this to happen, people have to find healing in themselves. Jesus teaches and heals, still. Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever.

You too must find a way to remove your distractions and busyness, to reach out to others in need. Nothing can be more important than bringing love to another, a follower or not. It is the love of Jesus that created the Jesus movement and carries it through to today.

Are you distracted? How do you bring the message to others?
