Luke 11:13 – June 13, 2020

If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the holy Spirit to those who ask him?” Luke 11:13 NABRE

Jesus is praying and His disciples come to Him and ask Him to teach them how to pray. Jesus teaches them the Lord’s Prayer, a prayer most followers of Jesus can recite from memory. Jesus changes from speaking about what to say to how to pray. He tells the story of a man who needs bread from a neighbor who will receive the bread because of his persistence. Jesus wants us to know if we have a need we should ask the Father. Jesus tells us that the Father will give to those who ask, and not only give but give in a quality and abundance that we could never imagine. Jesus compares a son asking for something to eat and a father who gives that son something good for him. Jesus compares a human father to our heavenly Father. If our earthly father will give us what is good, how much better will it be that is given from our heavenly Father. God the Father gives good gifts to His children and will give us the Holy Spirit who is a divine gift, ever present and giving us not only what we need but what will bring us joy as well. God is a God who loves us, protects us and will do all that is best for us. God’s love is a love we can’t understand, it is beyond our capacity to understand. Jesus tries to help us understand how much God the Father is for us. We can count on a Father who will be sure to be for our good.

We can depend on the love of God, and the gifts of God. More importantly we can look inside ourselves to see the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. The Spirit gives us many gifts and is always present to depend upon. We only need to seek out this Spirit and we will receive.

Do you count on God?  Do ask the Holy Spirit to help?

We can look inside ourselves to see the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. The Spirit gives us many gifts and is always present to depend upon. We only need to seek out this Spirit and we will receive. Click To Tweet
