Psalms 90:2 – June 7, 2020

Before the mountains were born, the earth and the world brought forth, from eternity to eternity you are God. Psalms 90:2 NABRE

This is the only psalm attributed to Moses. It references the creation of humanity from the dust of the earth. Moses is the author of the book of Genesis including the creation story, so it is a simple connection back to those verses in Genesis to recognize the same language used in this psalm. The psalm opens speaking about the eternity of God, God has existed before the creation of the mountains, from eternity to eternity. We more commonly say today that God has always existed, God has no beginning and no end, in fact God is outside of time. The psalm speaks to the shortness of the life of humans. We come from dust and even if we live a thousand years, (considered a long time) we would still be a speck on God’s timeline, we are a blip compared to God. It is with great wisdom that the psalmist understands this relationship between God and humans. God is everything and essentially humans are nothing, that is until we realize that we are everything to God. Of course it is only through the wisdom of God that humanity understands the shortness of life and the overwhelming presence of God in the universe. We are so fortunate to be in God’s line of sight, it is through God that we have all we need and desire. God looks at us with great importance, later we will read on the lips of Jesus that God knows every hair on our head. If we mean so much to God we should be sure to place the same priority on God that God places on us.

God knows everything about us, God knows our emotions, our fears and our joys. God knows when we are having a good day and a bad day and everyday God seeks to be close to us. We should always turn to God, every second of every day.

Do you call on God?  Do you realize the shortness of life?

God knows when we are having a good day and a bad day and everyday God seeks to be close to us. We should always turn to God, every second of every day. Click To Tweet
