Who can find a woman of worth? Far beyond jewels is her value. Proverbs 31:10 NABRE
Closing of the book of Proverbs we read this poem about the perfection of woman, ideal woman is seen through her activity as a wife; she runs the household, distinguished by abundant food and clothing, by keeping the things needed in the house, she supports the head of the house, the husband, helping keep the family name renown. The prologue to Proverbs contains references to Wisdom as woman who invites everyone to a banquet prepared at her house. Now we read the ideal woman knows the right things to say and do in every situation, we can see that the Wisdom of God has left a great mark on creation. Woman has moral strength, she is strong because she is aware of the entrusting from God, strong because God entrusts the human being to her, in every way. It is through woman that God entrust His own birth and life when it was time for His incarnation. The perfect woman becomes irreplaceable support and spiritual strength for others, the family owes much to this perfect woman, and in truth most of humanity owes much to women.
Paul in his letter to the Ephesians (see Ephesians 5:22-24) writes wives should be subordinate to their husbands as Christ is to the church. Christ’s humility is mimicked best in the ideal wife, and through her subordination she is able to steer the husband toward a moral code needed to create the Kingdom of God. It is no surprise that men lead many people, their tendency is to drive forward, the warrior. It is the wife alone who is able to be the governor for the husband, she is able to affect his tenderness, and bring out his empathy. But she cannot support the husband from a dominant position, she must tenderly and gently guide through her subordination.
