Isaiah 55:6 – October 5, 2019

Seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near. Isaiah 55:6 NABRE

This verse is included in chapter fifty-five and it is all sweet poetry. At the time, it was written as an invitation to those exiled in Babylon to return to Jerusalem. But it is a call that can be made for all time. It is God inviting whoever listens to come to a banquet and be part of the Lord’s covenant. We read; come to me, hear me, seek me, let the wicked not forsake me, my thoughts are your thoughts, you shall go out in joy. God speaking to His people, we only need to listen. When God speaks about seeking Him he is inviting us to be forgiven, it is a call to the people to return to God. They are called to conversion, they are to seek the Lord who lets Himself be found. The Lord does not judge as humanity judges and He offers forgiveness. God’s calling to repentance is grounded in the goodness of God, who abundantly pardons. People should grasp the opportunity that God offers. The passage is a call to conversion and is encouraging them (and us) to begin again. No matter how many times we fail we should begin again, seek God and we will be abundantly pardoned. To be converted is to seek God, who is near, even if we think we don’t know Him, God knows us and is ready to welcome us. It has been said we can walk a million miles away from God and as we turn God is in front of us. God is not fair, God is mercy. The people of Israel offended God not trusting, and still God wants to be found by them.

We may think we are not righteous enough to be close to God, but it is not true. God knows our nature, we do fail often to be perfect, yet God is always ready to be found. God celebrates being found, in fact all of heaven celebrates.

Have you been seeking God? Do you need help seeking God? I can help.

We may think we are not righteous enough to be close to God, but it is not true. God knows our nature, we do fail often to be perfect, yet God is always ready to be found. Click To Tweet
