Psalms 27:4 – March 7, 2019

One thing I ask of the LORD; this I seek: To dwell in the LORD’s house all the days of my life, To gaze on the LORD’s beauty, to visit his temple. Psalms 27:4 NABRE

Psalm 27 presents the point of view of someone in great danger from evil doers who were lying about trying to kill him. Yet in spite of difficult circumstances the psalmist is confident, courageous and unafraid. Knowing the Lord and trusting Him, God will help us overcome the fears that can paralyze us. The Lord is everything the psalmist needs, He is everything we need today. He is our light, we need not fear the darkness. He is our strength, we need not fear our weaknesses. He is our salvation, our victory is assured. The psalmist is confident because he takes time to fellowship with and get direction from the LORD. To be able to trust in the Lord requires a relationship, a mutual back and forth, time spent together. Although we may be fighting the battles of the day, we may feel under attack, we may think we don’t have time for anything, the example of the psalmist under the same circumstances is to make sure to take time with God. We read in the quoted verse, “One thing I ask of the LORD; these I seek; to dwell in the LORD’s house all the days of my life.” With everything life throws at us, being with God must be our highest priority. Without God we struggle alone. With the Lord we gaze on beauty – meaning we see God’s glory, the richness of His goodness and the love and favor He has for His people. With God we have everything, without God we have nothing.

Seek God perpetually. Know where you stand with God each day as you leave your house. God will never let you down, but you have to know Him to have the faith and trust that this is true. Know God and know confidence, strength and victory.

Do you seek the Lord? Do you ache to gaze on God’s beauty?

With the Lord we gaze on beauty – meaning we see God’s glory, the richness of His goodness and the love and favor He has for His people. With God we have everything, without God we have nothing. Click To Tweet
