The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the just run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10 NABRE
Solomon shared a proverb explaining we can be in safety through the name of the LORD. God has many names, El (God), Elohim (God Most High), El Olam (Everlasting God), El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty), Jehovah (Lord), Adonai (Lord, Master) and Yahweh (Lord, Jehovah). Yahweh is a name too holy to voice and spelled by the devout as “YHWH” In the quoted proverb it was written in Hebrew as YHWH, the holiest name of God, King, and Royal. Simply saying the name power is availed, it is a strong tower, the just are safe through the name. It is great comfort to say the name LORD and know we are safe. But we must be just. The word just in biblical language is used interchangeably with righteous; to be upright, in a state of acceptability to God. The righteous are spoken of constantly by Jesus. Jesus urges His followers to a greater righteousness, speaking of it in terms of piety. Yet, Jesus criticized those who tried to justify themselves through outward appearance, hypocrites. Jesus held very special those who were truly righteous, speaking about a resurrection of the righteous. Even sinners who asked God for mercy were looked at favorably by Jesus. Being righteous allows us to call on the name of Yahweh, Elohim, Adonai, Jehovah, Lord and we will be safe.
Christians are part of a powerful fraternity with Jesus as the head, we as the body forming the Body of Christ, united as one powerful and righteous family. Being members of this family provides access to all the power of the universe. We must live righteously, going deeper and count on our LORD for all we need. Speak the name Lord and be safe. This promise can come from nowhere else.
