Proverbs 16:3 – January 9, 2019

Entrust your works to the LORD, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3 NABRE

The verse quoted is a proverb of Solomon, very simple, entrust (or commit) your work to God and what you have planned will succeed. It is beautiful for God to care enough for us to reach down and aid the work we do. Solomon was a King, receiving strong admiration for his masterful accomplishments, he was wealthy and had extensive building programs. The largest project is the royal place, which includes a special mansion for one of his wives. He built the first temple that was the heart of worship for the Chosen people, containing the Ark of the Covenant, the presence of God in the midst of His people. The temple was destroyed, rebuilt and destroyed again, yet to this day is the most important artifact for the people of Israel. With all that Solomon accomplished during his reign as King it is easy to imagine he invoked this proverb daily. Without entrusting his work to God, would Solomon have works impacting people today? Those who know God, also know of Solomon, his works and his wisdom. Trusting his works to the Lord not only helped his work succeed but created a legacy that will continue into the future. If the Wisdom of Solomon tells us to entrust our work to God, it is advisable to heed his message.

What works do you do that you should trust to God? All of your work; your job, your ministry, the raising of your children, the care of your elderly parents, all the work you do should be put in the hands of God so it can succeed. Followers of Jesus, see the story of church creation, seemingly impossible, yet what is impossible for people is possible for God. Trusting your work to God is a really good idea!

What of your work should be in God’s hands? Are you aware of the success God wants for you?
