For the love of Christ impels us, once we have come to the conviction that one died for all; therefore, all have died. He indeed died for all, so that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NABRE
Paul declares his ministry is energized and directed through the love of Christ. Paul is speaking to the community at Corinth about Christ’s love shown by His dying for all. Paul stressing that all have died. Before Jesus sacrifice for all, all are dead, with no hope, no resurrection, no life eternal. Paul differentiates those who have come to the conviction, those who have chosen Christ, through baptism. To join the family of Christ we must choose to join, through baptism. Once we are in the family of Christ, we live; death has no power over us. However once we live thanks to Christ, we are asked to no longer live for ourselves but to mimic the self-giving love of Christ. Jesus dies that others may live, therefore, we should live to bring others to life, or more specifically bring others to the “conviction that one died for all.” We are all brought to life through Christ, good and bad, knowing and unknowing, everyone is offered life in Christ. It is up to us who have life in Christ to want to help those not baptized to choose that life, available to them as well.
The message of God’s love for His children is life. God’s plan depends on us to share the message of love and life. We must do for others what Christ has done for us. There can be nothing more important than sharing the message of love and life to all. There is someone in your life who needs to see your love for them and discover life.
