Psalms 27:1 – August 13, 2018

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear? The LORD is my life’s refuge; of whom should I be afraid? Psalms 27:1 NABRE

Psalm 27 is attributed to David, who is trusting in the LORD’s protection when he sincerely seeks it. The psalm is the psalmist’s prayer journey. He defines the LORD and then addresses the failure of those who come against him, they stumble and fall but he will not fear. He wants to live in the house of the LORD, wanting the LORD to always hear him. Continuing he mentions the good things he has received, intensifying his prayer and naming his desires. The psalm ends with the psalmist encouraging himself to hope in the LORD. The quoted verse opens the psalm and defines the LORD as light, salvation and refuge. The psalmist is secure because he is the LORD’s. With these qualities of the LORD there is no reason to fear, no reason to be afraid. Trusting in the LORD we can accomplish anything. Has fear of failure, or losing something kept you from taking a step you know you should take? Maybe you want to start a business, get married, have children, leave your job, do mission work, or have some other dream, but you don’t follow through because of fear. In our relationship with the LORD we act knowing the LORD grants what we desire. This psalm can be our prayer of confidence in the LORD, trusting our life is secure and safe. It is the LORD who gives us the light to see, the safe refuge to succeed and the promise to be saved.

Challenge yourself to take this psalm to heart. Trust in the LORD’s protection for your life. Sincerely seek the LORD in all you desire, trust the LORD wants you to have everything, always. Act knowing you will receive what you desire. Acting means; if you pray for rain, carry an umbrella!
