Life is a journey, hopefully a journey home to the one who created and loves us. We need a lamp to light the journey. We read in the quoted verse that God’s word is a lamp for our feet, in other words God’s word is a light that helps us follow the right path. Imagine a world in which there are no lights, no street lights, no flashlights, even no bright torches that can illuminate the path we are on in the dark. How would we know where to go or if we are even on the path. The same is true as we journey in life. The word of God delivers bright light for us to know what path to choose and how to get through our struggles, afflictions and trouble. God’s word is a light for the path. Even with hand held lights we can only see a few feet ahead of ourselves. The word is the same, we can see a few things coming our way, but we still require going back to the word to pick up the next suggestion.
The journey with God’s word will require self-discipline. The number of people declaring they are Christian is declining, so we must be a good witness to all that we want to say. We do not see everything clearly so we depend on faith to trust that God will send us help to follow the right path. It is a dark time in the world, it almost seems that evil is increasing and overcoming the good. We only have God’s light to set us on the right path. We are here to get life in the light and show others the right path. Jesus is the light that can shine on the correct path, we should trust His light and act in his love. By obeying the Word we can continue to walk in the light.
