Psalms 18:2 – September 30, 2018

He said: I love you, LORD, my strength, Psalms 18:2 NABRE

Psalm Eighteen is about deliverance obtained when the Lord is asked to help. The psalm opens declaring God is an all-powerful protector, a rock, a fortress, a shield and one to call upon for saving. The psalmist says they love the LORD, recognizing that all strength comes from Him. We read in this psalm and other verses in scripture “I love you LORD” many places. When we read it in scripture we think it was said with such confidence. The writer of these words has such strong love for the LORD. Then we reflect on our own doubt. We say we love the LORD but wonder what does it mean? When we love someone we will do anything for them, right? So to love the LORD is to do anything for Him. Jesus is an example. Jesus we are told was obedient to God even unto death. So we love the LORD so much we would die for Him, right? Would we give our lunch away to someone hungry? Would we give our water bottle to someone on the street? Would we make room in our house for someone who lost their home, even if we don’t know them? Do we pull clothes from our closet for someone in need? Do we give aid to someone who is sick? Do we visit someone in prison and give them encouragement? Some, simple tasks, others more difficult, but all show love for the LORD because Jesus tells us so (see Matthew 25:35-40). The writers of scripture seem confident saying they love, but truly they are as doubtful as us.

Don’t let doubt about God’s love for you or your love for God stop you from loving anyway. God’s message is; if you love then you will be changed, if you want to change someone, love them first.

Can you do more to show love? Can you do more to assist the stranger? If so, do.

Don’t let doubt about God’s love for you or your love for God stop you from loving anyway. God’s message is; if you love then you will be changed, if you want to change someone, love them first. Click To Tweet
