Again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?” Luke 13:20 NABRE
Jesus is teaching about the kingdom of God and shares several parable examples. He remains with this question, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God.” In a recent sermon Pastor Rich Villodas reminded us that God is always at work to this very day (see John 5:17) God is working to heal, restore, renew, to make things new and to set the world free, God is always at work in our circumstances. The humbling aspect to the idea God is always at work is God does not want to do it without you. God is always looking for someone who will partner with Him to heal, renew, restore the world. We are called to join God in what He is already doing, to make His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. So what is the kingdom of God? It is not necessarily the place we go when we die. “The kingdom of God is the dream that God has for the world that is marked by love, and joy and peace and goodness and gentleness and justice and compassion. The kingdom of God is what the world looks like when Jesus has His way”, Pastor Rich. Jesus compares the kingdom of God to a mustard seed which planted grows and becomes a large bush that birds dwell in its branches or yeast the leavens an entire batch of dough. In order words when the kingdom of God catches on it will consume everything and it is the one kingdom we should desire fully developed here and now.
It is important to remember that God does not want to create the kingdom without us. For God the kingdom is missing something if we are not included and actively working to bring it about. God can do everything alone but chooses us to be His partner. Work for the kingdom and fulfill God’s desire for the world and you.
