Isaiah 29:14 – August 25, 2022

Therefore I will again deal with this people in surprising and wondrous fashion: The wisdom of the wise shall perish, the prudence of the prudent shall vanish. Isaiah 29:14 NABRE
.
Reading the prophet Isaiah we witness another moment when the people have disappointed God. Despite their show of piety, Judah’s leaders refused to accept the prophet’s words of assurance. They rejected prophetic advice, they did not consult the prophet in forming their political plans and tried to hide their plans even from God’s prophet, who they thought did not understand military and political reality. So God reminds them of their foolishness. What good are their plans if God is not at the heart of those plans? What good are our plans if God is not at the heart of our plans? God says though they think they are wise and prudent this will vanish.

God will provide a wondrous surprise. Surprise, surprise, God is a surprise. Right before your eyes. It is baffling to the wise. To be surprised we only need to ask and allow God to surprise us. When we think we are at our most wise we discover God is so much more wise and uses those who are seen as weak and foolish to surprise us. Be surprised by God.

Do you allow God to surprise you? Has your prudent and wise self been taken from you at times?

God will provide a wondrous surprise. Surprise, surprise, God is a surprise. Right before your eyes. It is baffling to the wise. Share on X
