As the visions during the night continued, I saw coming with the clouds of heaven One like a son of man. When he reached the Ancient of Days and was presented before him, Daniel 7:13 NABRE
Daniel shares a vision in which he sees beasts and heavenly holy ones and a changing of the world priority from earthly to heavenly. Beasts represent conquering empires and and the heavenly visions represent the coming of the Kingdom of God. At the heart of the vision is one like a Son of Man who comes with celestial beings and great honor and glory is given to them. This Son of Man image can represent a savior, a heavenly king, a human and those coming with this one can be angels, or Israel or even all of humanity not still on earth. Israel no doubt sees this vision and believes themselves as the one to represent and evoke this change ushering in the kingdom of God. In His messages Jesus refers to Himself as the Son of Man and so Christians see Him as the one leading the coming of the kingdom of God and themselves as the ones who come along to see the change in the world.
It is an interesting vision and image, one that leads to many apocalyptic expectations and a very clear change of a world from humanly behavior to one of heavenly communion. We shouldn’t expect a drastic shift to a holy world but rather work for a place where holy communion is common because of our living. God needs us to be a heavenly vision here and now.
