Jeremiah 15:19 – July 27, 2022

Thus the LORD answered me: If you come back and I take you back, in my presence you shall stand; If you utter what is precious and not what is worthless, you shall be my mouth. Then they will be the ones who turn to you, not you who turn to them. Jeremiah 15:19 NABRE

Jeremiah opens his heart to the Lord. The mission God gave him has not proved easy. He seems to share his throughs with his mother, and with God, making a prayerful complaint to God who tells him what course he should take and offers Jeremiah hope. Jeremiah stresses a solidarity between himself and the people. Even though Jeremiah has only sought to serve the Lord and intercede for Him with the people, he has been rejected and cursed because his words bring discord, and he tells the Lord how pained he feels. The Lord’s reply seems harsh, He calls Jeremiah to personal conversion. If Jeremiah is to preach conversion to others, he must begin with himself, to be true to his mission he must shed pessimism. Once Jeremiah is cleansed himself, he will be able to speak the word of the Lord to the people.

This is a passage that is meant for all of God’s creation. We each have a mission and a part to play in God’s plan for salvation but first we must have our own conversion. We must take the Lord’s word to heart and be a follower that is unmovable in our willingness to live as God desires. We cannot be an example to others in word only, we must live and be an instrument of the Lord and then when people see us and hear our words from God, they will see in our life how to become a true follower of God.

Do people see God’s word in how you live? Are you aware of your mission for God?
