Micah 7:18 – July 19, 2022

Who is a God like you, who removes guilt and pardons sin for the remnant of his inheritance; Who does not persist in anger forever, but instead delights in mercy, Micah 7:18 NABRE

Micah closes out his prophecy with hope in the future restoration, expressed in the form of a prayer to the Lord. The prayer asks God for a return to the way things were in the early days of the chosen people, a repetition of wonderous works that will astound the surrounding nations and convince them of the power of the Lord. The prayer desires God be the only shepherd of His people who occupy a land that is rich and fertile. The prayer celebrates the Lord’s steadfast love and witnessing to the works of the Lord, His pardoning of sin and putting it out of His mind, the faithfulness of His promises no matter what. All the believer can do is be grateful and live in awe; “Who is a God like you?” Over and over again God endures the sinfulness and faithlessness of the people and returns to love them, forgiving them and showing nothing but mercy. God lives with the people in a loving and forgiving manner.

We read Jesus is asked how often should we forgive and He answers “seventy-seven times” (Matthew 18:22) in other words, limitless forgiveness. This is modeled by God who we read forgives and shows mercy always to the people who He has chosen to show the world and teach them who the one true God is. We must learn to forgive like God, no matter what, without holding anything over those we forgive, a no strings attached forgiveness. Forgiving is hard, yet it is required if we are be to a follower of God.

How do you forgive? Do you expect apology when offended?
