I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, John 17:20 NABRE
Jesus shares instruction with His disciples before His arrest and crucifixion. He has shared what is called His final discourse. Jesus models prayer by turning to His Father praying for the disciples who will be responsible for carrying His message into its next phase. Jesus emphasizes the important idea of revealing the Father as a main point. God, the Father is a loving and merciful creator who knows all of His creation intimately. God creates humanity so we may love God. If God has a weakness, we are it. Anyone who loves knows it is their loved one who has the control of their heart and all they have in life. It is no different for God, we have control of God’s love and all that God has made available for us. Seeing the suffering in the world today, it pains even the hardest heart, therefore it is clear that God who loves more deeply than anyone of us, is suffering many pains from all the hurt caused in life. We cannot know for sure how much God aches over our suffering, but we can guess God is rejoicing with those who love and pass His message into the world.
The disciples are those who will provide great love and joy for the Father and Jesus insures we understand their importance praying for them. They will have the task to continue to reveal the Father, as well as Jesus’ message of love for all and to share His message with others. Jesus also includes those who will believe because of the work of these disciples in His prayer to His Father. This is where we are blessed and prayed for by Jesus. Our love for God is important to God as is all love, but we are also called to love others so they know God’s love.
Do you accept Jesus’ prayer for you? Do you see yourself as God’s weakness?
Our love for God is important to God as is all love, but we are also called to love others so they know God’s love. Share on X
