John 16:28 – May 28, 2022

I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father. John 16:28 NABRE               

Jesus informs His disciples very directly that He has come from the Father and soon will be returning to the Father. It is the relationship with the Father that Jesus is all about. He is sent by the Father to live the mission of revealing the Father to those He meets and to leave the message for others to share throughout the world, or in Jesus words, to the ends of the earth. As Jesus returns to the Father His disciples pick up the mission Jesus has shared with them. Jesus has told them everything, revealing even the source of His life and message. He tells them anything they ask in His name will be granted but it is not Him asking the Father on their behalf, but through their love for Him, the Father loves them, will listen and grant their request. The disciples become united to the Son and so the Father will look upon them and see in them the image of the Son. Now the disciples who will be filled with the Holy Spirit can call out to the Father as Jesus does. United to the Son, they are united to the Father.

We too have the ability to unite with the Son, we can believe in and love Jesus, and through Christ we are united to the one who loves us most. To love the Son is to love the Father and by being united to the Son we are untied to the Father. The place to belong is in communion with the Father and Son. It is where we live eternally. Take a chance on Christ, be totally connected and see where you go.
