John 16:5 – May 24, 2022

But now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you asks me, “Where are you going?” John 16:5 NABRE

Jesus has been speaking in a long final discourse to His disciples and is bringing it to a conclusion. He is returning to the one who sent Him and He doesn’t want anyone to ask where he is going. Jesus’s hope is that after all this time they have a good understanding who sent Him and where He is going. Interestingly Jesus is not talking about a place but a person. We know Jesus is sent by God and is returning to God. God of course is everywhere and we know that Christ is transformed and is released from embodiment so He can be everywhere as well. So obviously Jesus returns to the one who sent Him. We have an idea when we die, we go to a place, often we think heaven, a place we think is magnificent and filled with beauty, joy and love. However, heaven is defined by the presence of God, where God stays. Of course, where God is there is always beauty, joy and love. These are attributes of God, and there are many other attributes of God we will also absorb when we return to the One who sent us. In the spiritual realm it is not important to be somewhere but to be with someone. We can’t understand how to be with someone and not in a place, it is an easy mystery to accept, as long as we are with God.

Jesus tells us all we live eternally, life continues eternally, we do so by being with the One who sent us. We will live in love, a love which is grace driven and divine, it entices us to love everyone in a way that is impossible for humans. Being with God brings out our full divine nature. Of course, we can be with God now if we accept grace and live a life of divine love.

Where do you want to go next? Are you with God now?

We will live in love, a love which is grace driven and divine, it entices us to love everyone in a way that is impossible for humans. Being with God brings out our full divine nature. We can be with God now if we accept grace. Click To Tweet
