John 3:32 – April 28, 2022

He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. John 3:32 NABRE

John writes about one who comes from above. The one who comes from above is above all, He testifies to what He has seen and heard but no one accepts His testimony. This is an interesting problem for people. If God sends someone who is with God, sees all God does and hears all God says, then people should listen to them. In the Hebrew scriptures God speaks to a prophet or a leader and that person interprets what God has said and shares it with the people. Though the Hebrew people seem to trust their leaders and listen to their prophets, they are not completely faithful to God. People are influenced by their circumstances, the people around them and their own need to be comfortable. In many ways listening to a prophet speaking for God can be problematic. Do they speak for God or is their interpretation subjective, especially when they are asking the people to do something difficult or uncomfortable? But the gospels are essentially the teaching of Jesus, who is the One sent from above, His words are not an interpretation of what God says. He has seen God, watched God’s behavior, hears God speaking to everyone, He understands God more thoroughly than any other being. Yet, when He comes and shares, the testimony of what He has witnessed, people are not listening. If we watch this as a show, not participating, we would think anyone who doesn’t listen to the One sent from above is making a big mistake. How do we act as a participant? Are we accepting the testimony or does it not impact us at all.

Jesus’ teachings are not easy but if we follow then everyone benefits, if we live by our own desires we act selfishly and lead to the harm of others. God tells us to listen to Him.

Do you believe one is sent from above? Do you accept their testimony?
