So they said to him, “Where is your father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” John 8:19 NABRE
Jesus speaks about being the Light of the world, where He is there is no darkness. To be the Light, means to shine through all. The religious leaders begin to question Him about testifying on His own behalf, something they believe the Messiah would never do. Jesus says His testimony can be verified by His Father. As we know Jesus is the Son of God, therefore we know His Father. But these religious leaders are in darkness without knowing Light, therefore they do not know The Father whom Jesus testifies too. If they do not know Jesus they do not know the Father.
But there is a bigger vision in Jesus words, He lives and breathes unity with God. Jesus shares He and the Father are one, this language feeds the development of trinity doctrine, Father, Son and Spirit are One God. Jesus’ vision is when we see Him we see the Father. It is a beautiful image, Jesus is divine in His nature and so His Godness shows in His Light. We read in 2 Peter 1:4 that we share in the divine nature and though we are not fully divine when people see us – made in the image and likeness of God – they can see God. People who get to know us should get to know Jesus who has left us with many stories and actions. Getting to know Jesus through us they come to know His Father, the knowing of God should be as simple as meeting a Jesus follower. Now, often we claim to be a follower of Jesus but don’t always follow Jesus teaching fully. It is not an easy path but is our call, if we want to find a joy filled life. Living fully in the Light Jesus projects, we will shine God all over the places we go.
How do you show Jesus to others? Can people meet the Father through you?We read in 2 Peter 1:4 that we share in the divine nature and though we are not fully divine when people see us - made in the image and likeness of God - they can see God. People who get to know us should get to know Jesus. Click To Tweet
