Luke 18:7 – November 13, 2021

Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? Luke 18:7 NABRE

Jesus shares a parable of a dishonest judge who will provide justice when it serves his own interest. A window is constantly asking for a just judgement and the judge finally realizing she might do anything to him if he doesn’t respond gives her a just judgement. Jesus then compares this dishonest judge to God. If a dishonest or unjust judge grants justice to a widow who repeatedly demands justice, how much more will God secure rights for those whom He calls His chosen ones; like the widows, the poor, the anawim of the bible. Jesus makes the point that we are children of God, God who is just and merciful, if a flawed human can make a just judgement, how much more can we depend on God to be just or even merciful in the things that are important to us. Jesus says God will not only be just but His response will be quick, and even if it is not quick we should be patient. The right answer is always right no matter how long it takes to receive the right answer.

Sometimes we think God is not answering our requests, but Jesus is certainly telling us God always responds. Of course some say God responds in the right time, not necessarily our time and sometimes God’s answer might be no. But whatever God’s response Jesus wants us to trust God will be beyond fair and respond as a loving Father who knows His children and wants what is best for them. We can count on God, and therefore we should live as though we know God’s counting on us.

Do you trust God responds when you request? Are you able to be patient and open for God’s response?
