Proverbs 27:1 – October 4, 2020

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what any day may bring forth. Proverbs 27:1 NABRE

This proverb is a call to realism, to live in the real present. For the Christian it means offering each day to God. We can never be sure about the future, today we may be able to serve the Lord but will we be able to serve Him in the future? We can never foresee with certainty how our life is going to end. Followers of Jesus should be living in the present moment, not looking forward or having regrets about the past. In looking at the present moment we should see it with joy. Living in the present with joy allows us to put all focus on what is happening in the moment. We can give our full attention to whomever we are talking with, paying full attention to the task at hand and be free to know that we have done our best in the present moment because we are completely attentive to each and every moment throughout your life. Often we are looking forward or back and wondering what will come or how we could have lived the past differently. Looking forward and back is distracting and serves no purpose; as we cannot change anything other than the present moment. If we are distracted we cannot serve the Lord or anyone fully, and thus underserve where we could and should do better.

If you can be completely attentive to the present moment you will support everyone around, letting those around you know how important and significant they are to you and through you to God. Being present to the person in front of you is the best way to demonstrate you care about only them, and at that moment they are the most important person to you.

Are you present in the present moment? Can you be mindful of everything in the present?
