There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28 NABRE
Paul shares a powerful passage with the community in the area of Galatia and us. Paul begins by declaring a distinction between the law and the faith of Abraham, a faith that came with a promise, God would make him great and make his descendants more than the stars. There was a faith about the future but the people depended on the law to remain close to God, the law was their teacher, and it was good for their community. But with His Life, death and resurrection Jesus brought all people into the one Body of Christ, one with Him and children of God. Christ’s gift brings the law into Christ Himself, it is faith that justifies. Those who believe in Christ become children of God, participating in the glorious Sonship of their risen Lord. Paul explains it is baptism that incorporates us into Christ, we are changed, a new person clothed with Christ like a robe of righteousness. Paul goes on to explain because of this profound transformation, our identity is changed. In Christ there is neither Jew of Greek (Gentile.) If we belong to Christ there is no religious difference, we are fully united and able to participate fully. We also read no difference in slave or free, in Christ all have the same rights and dignity. We are not male or female, there are no different entry rights or signs (like circumcision), all are equally and full in Christ though interdependent on one another.
The absence of distinctions is powerful, as Paul says we are all one in Christ. We are all humans united in the Sonship in Christ. We are individual parts of the one Body, all needed, fully united. While unique, God sees none of these distinctions.
Are you IN Christ? Do you recognize your divine unity?
We are all humans united in the Sonship in Christ. We are individual parts of the one Body, all needed, fully united. While unique, God sees none of these distinctions.
