Psalms 119:130 – August 5, 2020

The revelation of your words sheds light, gives understanding to the simple. Psalms 119:130 NABRE

Psalm 119 is divided in sections which follow the Hebrew alphabet, this section is “peh”. It means mouth and follows the letter “ayin”, which means eye. The natural thinking is a person should not speak until they have studied and seen the truth with their own eyes. The section with the quoted verse opens indicating the commandments of God are wondrous, in the sense they are beyond human comprehension. God’s values and standards are beyond us, we cannot comprehend the reason and extent to which God appreciates things and desires activities that may seem trivial to us. But as we see in the quoted verse, this should not discourage us from studying, thinking any attempt to understand God’s word would be futile. Any person who delves into the detail and studies the word of God with enthusiasm will not have to wait long before they will be satisfied with what is being offered in the word. At the very beginning of study a person will discover a great light which will begin to open up wellsprings of perception and truth. The verse continues indicating even people who are simple, innocent of faith in God, can attain profound understanding of the word and its secrets. There is no need to hold a Doctorate in Theology, even the lowest educated person with faith can embrace and delve into the truth of God, attaining God as an inner source of light and knowing.

Today we don’t study, we trust what we see, I use Social Media as an example, people sharing and posting what they would discover is obviously not true with just a little personal study. We can be steeped in truth through God, or we can become so simple that we follow false gods. It is up to us to see then speak.

Do you see and study? Do you open God’s word?
