Psalms 25:4 – June 9, 2020

Make known to me your ways, LORD; teach me your paths. Psalms 25:4 NABRE

This is a psalm that recognizes we must trust the Lord who forgives us, instructs us and guides us. It begins with the psalmist lifting his soul up to God, a desire to give his entire being to God. His trust is in the Lord, his hope in the Lord’s safety for him and the overpowering of his enemies. Then the psalmist asks the Lord to instruct him in His ways, for it is from God that all things come. The psalmist asks for forgiveness out of God’s mercy, love and goodness. The psalmist reflects on God goodness, instructing sinners, teaching how to be humble and notes the path to the Lord is love and faithfulness for those who remain in the covenant. God pardons guilt and with respect for the Lord, anyone can be instructed on the way that should be chosen for their life. The Lord provides prosperity and friendship, so we should never take our eyes off the Lord. The psalmist prays for forgiveness, and graciousness, help to defeat foes and for deliverance. Waiting for the Lord the psalmist notes his own integrity and uprightness, hoping this will preserve him in the Lord. It is a prayer that gives all glory to God, announcing that all love, trust, forgiveness and instruction comes from the Lord. Be ever vigilant in doing the Lord’s will. It is through our respect of the Lord and the following of his commands that we are aided, shown mercy and delivered to the Lord.

If we want to live the most joyful life, we should seek the Lord’s help. If we want to be a significant contributor to the life of our family, extended family and our community, we most reach out to the Lord and ask for help. Whatever adversity we may face, it is always best to be surrounded by people who love us as Christ loves the world.
