Psalms 103:17-18 – May 29, 2020

But the LORD’s mercy is from age to age, toward those who fear him. His salvation is for the children’s children of those who keep his covenant, and remember to carry out his precepts. Psalms 103:17-18 NABRE

This is a psalm of praise, blessing and thankfulness. This psalmist is blessing the Lord and is thankful to the Lord for His forgiveness and for healing of all diseases, for the returning of his life and the love and mercy the Lord shows. The psalmist invites himself and others to bless the Lord, to praise the Lord and for all of creation to praise the Lord. He writes that the heavens are so big, God is so big, and all that is God is so big compared to humanity. How could such a big God care for and watch over humanity who are so small, so tiny in comparison. How can humanity mean so much to God who looks after everything. We should praise God for what He does for us personally, for all the justice He provides us, for His pardoning and love, as a father who loves his children, all the while He is a God who rules the heavens and the universe. All of creation is invited to praise and thank the Lord. Man, created from dust recognizes God’s mercy endures over every generation, forever essentially. God is merciful toward those who respect Him. His salvation is for those who keep His covenant and remember to carry out His commands. These beautiful words reveal the immense love God has for humanity. God’s grace is so beautiful and God’s love for us so abundant that we can only imagine all God has done for us, more than we can even comprehend.

We run through our day perhaps not giving a thought to all the blessing and goodness we have in our life. This psalm with its beautiful language of praise and blessing can be a reminder to reflect on God’s magnificence.

Are you thankful? Do you take time to give thanks daily?
