John 17:1 – May 26, 2020

When Jesus had said this, he raised his eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you,” John 17:1 NABRE

Jesus is ending his final teaching to His disciples, and he does so by turning to God His Father in prayer. Jesus whenever He prays looks up, or raises His eyes to heaven, acknowledging the moment of prayer and that He is speaking to God His Father and our Father. Jesus declares the hour has come, it is time for Him to begin the journey to the cross and His resurrection. In His prayer He is telling His Father that He has accomplished all He was sent to do. The main mission for Jesus is to glorify His Father and by His obedience, and His attention to all God’s children, Jesus has done everything in the name of the Father. So Jesus feels He has glorified the Father. He will go on to say everyone now knows God as the one true God and He accomplished all the work that God gave Him to do. Then He will ask to be glorified. Jesus after His resurrection is said to be in His glorified body, but God also glorified all Jesus has done. As Paul will say, every knee should bend at the mention of the name Jesus, in heaven and on earth. (See Philippians 2:10) In speaking to God Jesus declares His commitment complete to the Father and asks for His Father’s glory.

We have the same hope, if we do all God has given us to do, and make God known as the one true God, we too can be glorified by God. No knee may ever bend at the mention of our name, but there will be joy in heaven at all we gave for God.

Do you know your mission for God? Do you attend to your mission for God daily?

We have the same hope, if we do all God has given us to do, and make God known as the one true God, we too can be glorified by God and there will be joy in heaven at all we gave for God. Click To Tweet
