Romans 1:20 – April 22, 2020

Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made. As a result, they have no excuse; Romans 1:20 NABRE

Paul is this section of the letter to the Roman community, a community Paul has not met, but plans to visit, is discussing how even if people are not Jewish, but secular, they can still know there is a God just by seeing all of creation. God’s fingerprints covers the world and all of creation. Not a thing in the world that has a natural origin is overlooked by God. God has made all of creation specifically and carefully, with a purpose and a place. So no matter who we are we must see God evident in all creation. We read other places in scripture that God can be seen in the greatness and beauty of created things. We can call this God’s natural revelation, which Paul claims is accessible in every age and to every thinking person through use of reason. “Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made.” By the process of observation, reflection and deduction, the mind is capable of reasoning there must be a powerful God that transcends the material universe and is necessary to account for creation’s existence and complexity. Today thanks to the Hubble Telescope we know that there is more than one galaxy for every person on the earth, the universe seems to have no bounds and is ever expanding.

Whether you believe in evolution or Divine creation there doesn’t need to be a contradiction. At the beginning of it all there was God, creating and starting things in motion. Every created thing is a road map to see God, every being seen as God’s handiwork.

Do you see God through creation? Do you recognize the complexity of creation?

Whether you believe in evolution or Divine creation there doesn't need to be a contradiction. At the beginning of it all there was God, creating and starting things in motion. Click To Tweet
