Acts 4:12 – March 15, 2020

There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved. Acts 4:12 NABRE

The Acts of the Apostles tells of the beginning of the church. After Jesus returns to His Father the Holy Spirit descends on the apostles and they begin to teach and heal in the name of Jesus. One afternoon walking through the temple area Peter’s shadow is cast on a man who cannot walk and he is healed. For this the leaders of the temple have Peter and John arrested wanting to know by what authority had they healed the man. The healed man must have been a well know figure as he had been disabled since birth and every day brought to the same gate at the temple. Peter gives a speech that is was Jesus the Nazorean who they crucified in whose name the man was healed. Jesus is the cornerstone rejected by the Jewish leadership. It is through Jesus that salvation has come and there is no salvation from anyone else. The name of Jesus is the only name in heaven and on earth that can save. Peter shows the boldness he now has with the power of the Holy Spirit filling him. It was not very long before that Peter cowered when asked if he knew Jesus and now he openly and vehemently proclaims Jesus’ name.

Jesus name is Yeshua in Hebrew, a shortened form of Yehoshua meaning “Yahweh Saves.”  Peter’s statement is the most absolute universal statement in Scripture; salvation in Jesus Christ alone. God sent his only Son is the provision of salvation for the human race. We must all look to Jesus for salvation and in any circumstances where we need to be healed or helped. Jesus lived for others, died for others and continues to act on behalf of the Father for others. We should model Jesus and live for others as well.

Do you seek help in Jesus? Do you realize your salvation is in the name of the Lord?
