In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets; in these last days, he spoke to us through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe, Hebrews 1:1-2 NABRE
The opening of the letter to the Hebrews claims all God’s past revelations and history have come to a culmination. History is divided into a former age when God spoke in partial and various ways and the time of fulfillment in which God has spoken once and for all in His Son. So God spoke to the Hebrew people about Himself, as Creator of the universe and when He spoke humanity reacts with awe and gratitude. Now God surpasses all He has done, through Christ. The reader of Hebrews views ancestors as fathers, previous generations, for both Jew and Gentile. The prophets would include the patriarchs, Abraham, Moses, etc. and the named prophets. Saying in these last days the author is expecting the Second Coming of Jesus any time and so believes they are living the last days. God’s Son spoke, and left the message that God wants all people to know. God has made all things for His Son through whom all was created. Jesus will inherit all the universe and everything in it.
But can we also understand that God is still speaking through His Son. The Word of God is living and when we hear the Word it comes to life in us. When we meet Jesus we encounter Him, we experience Him and through that experience are called to use the gifts God has given us to reveal the Word of God to those people around us who can benefit from hearing them. Jesus is alive in us, the Word is alive for all to hear!
Do you see the Word of God come alive in your life? Are you ready to know Jesus and share what Jesus has to offer with us who need the living Word?
The Word of God is living and when we hear the Word it comes to life in us. If Jesus is alive in us, the Word is alive for all to hear!
