1 Corinthians 1:9 – December 3, 2019

God is faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9 NABRE

Paul writing to the community in Corinth speaks of their call to be on mission given by God. All who follow Jesus, follow because God called them to a special mission. It’s God’s inviting grace that brings us into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. No matter who we are or what our gift may be God is faithful and has a mission and call for each of us. Is that call to be in fellowship with Christ? Maybe not. Though knowing Christ and following His message makes life better and makes us better at life. It is Jesus who dominates the message of Paul to the Corinthians and to us. Fellowship is sometimes rendered, union, communion, or community. So Paul is saying God has called the Christians at Corinth to be one with the Son, giving them the right to be called sons and daughters of God, it is the same call for each of us, giving us the same right to be called a son or a daughter of God. At the same time fellowship is with one another, so we are in communion with those others who are in fellowship with Christ. We have this relationship with Christ the divine, and a relationship with others who are human. We have this union, communion with Jesus and with each other, so we should be always focused on the common good. What is good for my brother, my sister is good for me and good for all.

God’s idea of fellowship is we all work together, we love one another, help one another, take care of one another. As we move toward Christmas we recognize that even God depended on another to bring His Son into the world. Fellowship for God is for everyone and is necessary for a sanctified world.

Do you surround yourself with other Christians? Do you try to live dependent or independent?

God's idea of fellowship is we all work together, we love one another, help one another, take care of one another. We have communion with Jesus and with each other, so we should be always focused on the common good. Click To Tweet
